Celebrating Women and Springtime

With daffodils and sunshine making a welcome return to the UK, schools going back today, and the timetable for ‘normality’ being tentatively set out now, is its just us or is there is a sense of positivity and excitement in the air?

Hello once again friends. We hope that everyone is keeping safe and well, and that there is spring sunshine where you are – there has been here. We are very pleased to be back with another short newsletter for you – on International Women’s Day 2021!

And although we are very much a family business here, it is completely necessary to rase a glass to Susanna here, and to put a big photo of her at the top! But here today we are raising glass to women everywhere. You are amazing, and none of this happens without you.

So where have we been this month? Nowhere! And what have we been doing? Pruning! It’s such a big job – the biggest of the year in terms of time and resource – even moreso than the harvest. You may have seen on our instagrama drone video showing us and our team hard at work – that gives an idea of the job we had to do.

However while we have been working hard in vineyard, we are very happy to report that news of our vineyard and wines has been travelling very far!

How incredible to see our vineyard appear in a fabulous piece on English wine’s new quality hallmark in the Telegraph, titled ‘The landmark moment that proves British wine makers are taking on Champagne’ written by Victoria Moore. They even used our corner of East Sussex as the main image!

And our morning fizz-tasting friend Talk Radio’s James Max included us in a story in the Financial Times as he asked a big question about his post-lockdown part plans: ‘Time to ditch champagne for English fizz?’ What do you think? …

Of course we would not finish a newsletter without suggesting a food pairing, to make you really hungry and thirty at the same time. Our suggestion this time is our Brut 2018, paired with Spanish Tapas, here you can see spice gambas… What is that rumbling noise? Sorry!

So once again here’s to International Women’s Day, please stay well and safe everybody, and we are so excited to stay that we will soon be able to see you all very soon.

Skål!
