Pruning Done, Buds Emerging in the vineyard

With winter pruning complete, the vineyard now sits beautifully neat and tidy, a fresh new haircut making it perfect and ready for the 2023 growing season. And it’s off we go!

Hello friends, and welcome once again, we hope that you are very well. We’re here with another diary entry for you on life and times at our Eridge vineyard, so make yourself comfortable, it’s fika time.

Each year it is always a big job – second only to harvest in terms of scale and effort – but with a great team, our final winter pruning before the vines burts into life was a great success, despite a little rain.

This job has to be done by hand, so it does take time, but many skilled hands made light work of it, and at this moment the vineyard is looking pristine and in excellent order. And now we wait for the tiny pink and green buds to burst out, which will be led as usual by our thriving Chardonnay.

In press terms this month, wine presenter and journalist Tom Surgey caught up with our Blanc de Noirs at a London tasting in early April and loved it as you can see! Thanks to Tom for his kind comments.

“Blanc de Noirs 2018 – absolutely stellar; great balance; one of the best English BdN’s of my year
so far (and last year!)”

And now on to food…

If you are already feeling hungry then prepare to feel hungrier… Our deliciusly tempting food pairing series returns, and this one is perfect for this time of year and lunch with friends: English Asparagus with Harissa Salmon, paired with our Sparkling Rosé 2019. You can download the recipe here. Give it a try and do let us know what you think!

April has also seen the return of people to the vineyard! We were very pleased to host a private tour for a group of friends visiting from London, who were such good fun. And it was so lovely to hear laughter among the vines again, after the quiet of winter. “The best and most informal wine tour ever” was their feedback, which we took as a great compliment!

If you have a group you’d like to bring to the estate for a special private tour and tasting, then please get in contact.

Now you know that we like to make you aware of new places where you can find and enjoy our luxury sparkling wines, but this time it is not an exclusive hotel or restaurent, but a county. This one is a big deal for us and completes the circle – at last our wine will be in Sweden. Brut 2018 will be available from end of May in the Systembolaget!

That is all for us this time, we will see you again very soon.

Skål!

Susanna & Douglas
