For a boutique wine estate like us, the release of a new sparkling wine is a very special thing, and doesn’t happen too often. When it does we get extremely excited…

Hello friends, and welcome back. We’re here with another update for you on life at our Eridge vineyard, so make yourself comfortable, it’s fika time.

A perfect sunny London afternoon in the beautiful upstairs rooms at The George in Fitzrovia was the setting for the launch of the latest addition to our exclusive sparkling wine family, the very limited edition Blanc de Noirs 2018.

Our first ever ‘Blanc de Noirs’ – the traditional French name for white sparkling wine created from only black grapes – is from the incredible 2018 vintage; a blend of 92% Pinot Noir and 8% Meunier, seeing the benefit of 36 months maturing on lees.

The wine went down so well with our guests on the day – thanks to all who came along and raised a glass, with some Swedish löjrom and an oyster or two! And It’s wonderful to see this wine has already started to receive press coverage

And what about the vineyard? Well we don’t want to tempt fate but everything is looking really good out there. Flowering began last week, across all three of our classic varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier.

The weather has been close to perfect for weeks, and continues to look favourable. We are taking this opportunity to do some some weeding, which we do mechanically rather than spraying, so as to be as sustainable as possible.

There is also more award news to share with you, and this time it’s our Rosé 2018, which received a silver medal from the major international competition Decanter‘s World Wine Awards.

Here’s what the judges said: “Lovely rosé with a Victorian rose hue, and a delicate strawberry fizz. The acidity is taut, and the mousse lively, and flavours of bread and biscuits supplement the lively fruit flavours”.

We also recently welcomed a lovely group of people down to the vineyard amongst the vines and flowers for our June Open Day, which was a great success, with a mix of locals and people coming from London.

If you missed this one but have a group who would like to come down to see us for a bespoke tour, please get in contact.

Right, that is all from us for this time. Enjoy the rest of English Wine Week, and we are now off to prepare for our Midsummer party tomorrow, which as you may know is a big celebration in Sweden!

See you again very soon.

Skål!
