Or Happy Easter, as some of you may prefer! A short and sweet update from us here, as the UK eases into a well-earned long weekend, after a month in which Spring has teasingly unfolded very gradually, our anticipation growing like our vines and their delicate new buds, reaching for the warming sun.

Hello friends, and welcome once again, we hope that you are very well. We’re here with another diary entry for you on life and times at our Eridge vineyard, so make yourself comfortable, it’s fika time.

So what has been happening out in the vineyard? Well following winter pruning there is a period of calm and relative rest, but this is short-lived of course. We then raise the wires, and once the vines begin to bud and to reveal the first exciting glimpses of vintage 2024, we must lay down the canes and tie them to the trellis wires to control where and how they will grow. As best we can, at least – our vines are extremely wilful personalities!

Now, what are the best wines to drink in Spring? The Drinks Business UK wine trade magasine has just published a piece dealing with this exact question… it seems that the answer is our Blanc de Blancs 2018! We were so pleased to be included in this list, by their editor Master of Wine Patrick Schmitt, who wrote:

“There must be few better ways to toast the arrival of spring than English sparkling… And Busi Jacobsohn is a brilliant producer, crafting fine fizz from south-west facing vineyards in East Sussex, like this pure Chardonnay, with its layers of lively, persistent zesty lemon and fresh apple characters, complemented by subtle notes of hazelnut and baked bread from the five years this wine spends on its lees.”

And in future press news, March saw us pay host to a young Norwegian journalist Marie Askeland Lauvdal, a student at Norske Journalist Högskola. We were interviewed as part of her research for a report on the growing wine industry in England, within the context of climate change, something we can talk about for many many hours. Or days? Longer! In any case Marie asked many intelligent questions. An impressive journalist already we think, look out for her.
MAGNUM COMING

Finally and just before you put down your device and pick up your Easter fizz, you should take a moment to head over to our Instagram to see what this slightly industrial looking screenshot here is about. It’s an extremely exciting new arrival to our sparkling wine family, which is coming soon!

That is all for us this time, so eat and drink well during Easter and we will see you again very soon.
