A new year has begun, and so too a new vineyard cycle. All of the sparkling wines we make are ‘vintage’, so everything we do now – leading up to harvest in distant October – goes towards the creation of our range of 2023 wines. What will this year bring us?
Hello friends, and welcome back to our updates, we hope that you are very well. We’re here with another diary entry for you on life and times at our Eridge vineyard, so make yourself comfortable, it’s fika time.
Out in the vineyard it’s very cold and very still right now. We will begin our winter pruning a little later in the year, so for the moment it’s a question of busying ourselves carrying out important maintenance tasks and preparing the site for future jobs. Oh, and dog walking of course.
The vines at this stage can easily cope with the freezing conditions – in fact it is healthy for them – but once they emerge from their winter sleep with their new buds in the coming months, that’s when they really don’t like the cold so much. But we are prepared for that and it is an excellent site here. All part of the adventure of growing grapes in England!
Who is hungry? Well we are very pleased to introduce a new food pairing series. Fine wine and excellent company are a wonderful combination, but sometimes we think that it is only when you add delicious food to this mix that an occasion can be elevated to perfection…
And because this notion of pairing sparkling wine with food may be a little unfamiliar to some, we thought we would help you out with some tempting ideas. So we will have a new recommendation for you each time, and we will also let you know how to prepare the dish: Ingredients and instructions are available to download here.
Our first pairing is the incredibly tempting Cumin Lamb Noodles… spicy, simple to prepare, and bursting with great flavours. We have matched it with our super-versatile 2019 Sparkling Rosé. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
Now somewhere new and very exciting to enjoy our sparkling wines: Our Classic Cuvée 2019 and Blanc de Noirs 2018 are now available at legendary The Berkeleyin Belgravia. This cosy corner in their Blue Bar looks just perfect, doesn’t it?
Press-wise, we were thrilled to find we’d been included by leading wine publication Decanter in their Buyer’s Report, in which their expert panel examined both quality and commercial merits across multiple stages of judging, recommending our Brut as a worthwhile addition to any UK portfolio!
Then right at the close of last year we featured in a piece in The Telegraph newspaper, which wine journalist Victoria Moore titled: ‘I’ll take a bottle of home-grown fizz over a Veuve Clicquot any day’. She went on to say: “I’d much rather be drinking Busi Jacobsohn Rosé”. So brilliant!
That is all for us this time, as the beautiful pink sun sets on another newletter, just like it did over the vineyard this week.
We will see you again very soon.
Skål! Susanna & Douglas
